  1. Driving along and Engine dies.
Common problem in older Willys CJ's. Particles in the gas tank have come loose and sucked down to the outlet blocking the fuel from reaching the fuel pump. Remove the gas tank and clean it out! Compressed air works well or flush the tank with gasoline.

  2. Difference between Military and Civilian rims.
Military rims are split rims and bolted together. Civilian rims are all one piece.

  3. Frequent Hesitation, Shooting black smoke.
This is a common Carburetor problem. The throttle shaft has become worn and no longer fits causing too much air mixture. You can either repair by having a mechanic drill and insert a bushing, or replace the carburetor with an aftermarket Solex.

  4. Hesitation while Accelorating.
This is a common distributor advance problem. this can be mechanical or vaccum advance distributors. In a mechanical distributor there are 2 springs below the plate holding the condensor and points. One of these springs is broken. In vacuum advance distributors, the vacuum chamber could be faulty. Please see the Service Manual for information on disassembling and repair.

  5. Steering Shaking Violently.
When driving down the highway at a high speed. Most always this is caused by a worn steering linkage...the Gear Box; Drag Link; Bellcrank; Bellcrank Kit; Wheel Bearing, or King Pin Bearing.
